LED Light Therapy

Supporting Cellular Energy and Skin Healing Through Precise Light Waves

Skin health is driven by cellular energy. When cells are underperforming—due to the natural ageing process, sun damage, stress, or inflammatory conditions like acne—the skin can look dull, lose its resilience, and take longer to heal. At U Skin Clinic, we use medically managed LED (Light-Emitting Diode) phototherapy to deliver pure light energy directly to cells, encouraging them to repair, regenerate, and function optimally.

LED therapy is an entirely non-invasive, pain-free treatment that uses specific, clinically proven wavelengths of light to target distinct layers of the skin. It can be used as an independent treatment to restore a healthy radiance, but it is also frequently used to accelerate healing and soothe the skin following more advanced clinical procedures.

LED Therapy at a Glance

How Phototherapy Works: The Core Wavelengths

Unlike ultraviolet (UV) light, which causes damage to the skin, LED therapy uses therapeutic, safe wavelengths of light that contain no harmful UV rays. When these light waves are absorbed by the skin, they stimulate a natural cellular process called photobiomodulation—essentially acting as a power source for your cells.

Depending on your specific skin concerns, we utilise different light wavelengths to achieve precise clinical results:

1. Dermalux Blue Light (415nm)
Blue light targets the surface layers of the skin where acne-causing bacteria (C. acnes) live.

The Clinical Effect: The light wavelength creates a natural chemical reaction that destroys the bacteria without damaging the surrounding tissue. It helps to clear active breakouts, reduce inflammation, and regulate oil production, leading to a calmer, clearer complexion.

2. Dermalux Red Light (633nm)
Red light penetrates deeper into the skin, reaching the cells responsible for producing structural proteins.

The Clinical Effect: It stimulates the fibroblasts to boost the production of collagen and elastin, helping to soften fine lines and improve skin firmness. Additionally, red light increases local blood circulation, accelerating cellular repair and restoring a natural, healthy glow.

3. Dermalux Near-Infrared Light (830nm)
Near-Infrared light is the deepest penetrating wavelength, working within the advanced structural layers of the skin and underlying tissue.

The Clinical Effect: It is a powerful tool for reducing deep-seated inflammation, soothing redness, and calming irritation. Near-Infrared significantly speeds up the body's natural healing process, making it an excellent post-treatment therapy to minimise swelling or bruising following injectables, peels, or microneedling.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

LED therapy is one of the most relaxing treatments we offer. The procedure itself is incredibly straightforward:

Preparation: Your skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or sunscreens that might block the light waves from penetrating effectively.

The Session: You will lie back comfortably, and a specialised LED canopy will be positioned closely over your face or the targeted area of your body. We will provide you with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the bright light.

The Experience: The light will be turned on for 20 to 30 minutes. You won't feel any pain, scratching, or irritation—just a pleasant, gentle warmth as the light warms the skin. Many of our clients find the experience deeply relaxing and use the time to rest.
